Anyone actually know how to see deleted messages on Instagram?

I’m not talking about archived chats — I mean messages that were actually deleted or unsent. Is there any way to view them again?

I’ve seen people mention data downloads, third-party tools, even monitoring apps… but not sure which methods work vs scams.

Has anyone here successfully recovered or viewed deleted DMs? Or once they’re gone, that’s it?

Honestly… this gets asked all the time, and the answer is pretty disappointing.

You can’t really see deleted Instagram messages.

Once a message is deleted (or unsent), it’s removed from Instagram’s system on your side, and there’s no built-in way to view it again. Even Instagram’s own help info basically says deleted messages aren’t recoverable.

From what I’ve seen (and tried myself), here’s the reality:

Downloading your data? -Doesn’t show deleted messages — only current ones. “Recovery apps” or websites? -Mostly sketchy / fake. People report they don’t actually recover anything. Facebook/Messenger trick? -Used to work years ago, doesn’t anymore.

Instagram doesn’t let you view deleted messages once they’re gone.

Once a DM is deleted or unsent, it’s removed from the app with no built-in recovery option.

Most “recovery tricks” (data download, third-party apps, etc.) don’t actually bring messages back.

The only exception people mention is if you were already using a monitoring tool like VigilKids before the messages were deleted. In that case, messages may still be visible in its stored activity/logs because it records chats in real time rather than trying to “recover” them afterward.

Short answer: you can’t view deleted Instagram messages.

Once a DM is deleted or unsent, it’s removed from Instagram’s side and there’s no official way to bring it back.

People usually suggest things like:

data download requests “recovery tools” checking backups or linked accounts

But none of those reliably show deleted messages.
