How do you track an Android phone from an iPhone? (Without losing your mind)

I just switched to an iPhone 15, but my son is still on a Samsung Galaxy. Since I can’t add him to my "Find My" circle on iOS, what’s the best way to keep tabs on his location?

I’ve looked into Google Maps sharing, but it seems to stop updating if the app is closed. Are there any apps that actually work cross-platform without being super laggy or killing his battery?

The "free" way is Google Maps Location Sharing.

On his Android, open Maps > Profile > Location Sharing.

Select "Until you turn this off" and share it with your email.

You can then view him from the Google Maps app on your iPhone.

Warning: It’s notorious for "Freezing" in the background on iOS unless you keep the app open.

If you want something that actually stays connected, don't rely on Google Maps. I’m on Android and my partner is on iOS, and we use VigilKids. It’s way more stable for cross-platform tracking because it doesn't get "killed" by the OS background limits as easily.

The setup is basically 3 steps:

Step 1: Create an account on VigilKids.

Step 2: Bind the Android phone (the instructions are super clear).

Step 3: Just log into the dashboard from your iPhone.

I like it because I get Real-time Location and I can even see his Live Screen if I’m worried he’s in a sketchy area or talking to people he shouldn't be. Standard GPS apps won't give you that.

You can also use the web browser on your iPhone to go to google.com/android/find. If you have his Google login, you can see his live location, ring the phone, or wipe it if it’s stolen. No app install needed on your iPhone, but it’s a bit clunky for daily use.
