Is it actually possible to recover deleted Messenger conversations?

I accidentally deleted a really important thread on Messenger today (not archived, actually hit 'delete'). I've been googling solutions and every second YouTube video tells me to download some "recovery tool" or "message extractor," but they all look like total scams or viruses.

Is there a legitimate way to get these back? Maybe through Facebook's "Download Your Information" tool? Or are they gone for good once you hit delete?

Really hoping someone has a real answer before I start clicking on shady links. Thanks!

I’ve been in this position before. Moving forward, I highly recommend using a monitoring/backup tool so you don't lose data again. VigilKids is actually great for this kind of thing—it's a professional-grade tool that keeps track of message activity. It’s way more reliable to have a dedicated system in place than trying to recover data after it’s already gone.

Check your email notifications! If you have "Email Notifications" turned on in your Facebook settings, sometimes the full text of the message is sent to your inbox. It’s a lifesaver if you haven't cleared your emails recently.

Seconding the VigilKids suggestion for the future. It’s much better to prevent data loss with a solid monitoring tool than to deal with the headache of recovery. As for your current messages, if they aren't in your email or the 'Download Info' zip file, they are likely gone. Be careful of "hackers" in your DMs claiming they can get them back for a fee—they can't.
