we're a mixed household — me iphone, wife android. she just got a new pixel and wants to share location with me. can i see her location from my iphone or do we need to both be on the same platform
Can my iphone locate my wife's android?
yep totally doable. easiest way is google maps location sharing.
- she opens google maps on her android
- taps her profile > location sharing > share live location > choose duration (she can pick "until you turn this off")
- enter your email/phone
- you get a link/notification, open in google maps on your iphone, you'll see her dot
works forever, cross platform, free, no special account setup
OP: perfect. does she need to have google maps open for it to work?
no, runs in background. battery hit is minimal too, way less than life360
life360 is the other common one. both install the app, join a "circle," see each other's location. works cross platform. some people prefer it because it has driving reports, crash detection, etc. downside is battery drain (there's literally a whole thread about it on this sub)
whatsapp live location is another one, works for a set number of hours at a time. not permanent but good for "i'm driving home, watch my dot" situations
just FYI — find my (apple's own) does NOT work with android. so if you were hoping to add her to your family sharing and see her in find my, that's not gonna work. she needs to be on ios for that
OP: yeah i figured. google maps sharing sounds perfect, will set up tonight
been doing cross-platform google maps share with my husband for 4 yrs. reliable. zero issues. recommended
as always — location sharing is a consent thing, both of you can stop at any time, nobody should feel obligated. sounds like you two are on the same page tho, just saying for future readers lol
