i have my main phone (pixel 8) and i got a cheap tablet for reading at night but i'd love to get my text notifications on the tablet too so i don't have to keep my phone in bed. anyone know a way? the tablet is wifi only no sim
Mirror my texts to a second phone
google messages has this built in. on your pixel, open google messages > profile pic > messages for web / device pairing. then on your tablet open messages.google.com in the browser and scan the qr code. bam, all your sms shows up on the tablet and you can send too (as long as pixel is online)
OP: wait it's that easy? does it mirror or do i get actual notifications
you get notifications on the tablet when it's open/web page active. if you want real push notifications you'd need the messages app installed on the tablet (only works if the tablet has google messages, not all do) and you pair via bluetooth or rcs
pushbullet is another option. it mirrors ALL your phone notifications (not just texts) to any other device. used to be great, has gotten worse over the years but still works. free tier is limited tho
if both are samsung or both pixel there's usually a native feature for this. cross-brand you're stuck with the messages-for-web or a 3rd party app
just be aware that anything using "messages for web" is sending a copy of your sms through google's servers. fine for most people but if you handle sensitive stuff for work etc maybe think about it
also if you have an imessage contact texting you and you're on android, none of this matters because imessage doesn't work cross platform anyway. just for the sms/rcs folks
OP: okay messages for web sounds like exactly what i want. gonna try it tonight thx
