i lost my iphone and realized to my horror i never turned on find my. is there LITERALLY any way to locate it or am i screwed
Locate iphone when find my is turned off???
honest answer: mostly screwed. find my is THE tool for this on iphone and if it's off, apple can't help you.
BUT. a few things to try:
- google maps timeline. if you were signed into google maps on the phone and had location history on, you can see where the phone last was at google.com/maps/timeline
- if you use any app with its own location tracking (uber, life360, snap map, google, fitbit) check those — any of them might have a last-known location
- if you were texting someone with location share on (imessage location share, whatsapp live location) check with them
- carrier sometimes can help with a last known tower location, but they won't just hand this out, usually requires a police report
OP: ugh yeah nothing of that is set up. this is why i shouldn't be an adult
lesson learned tho. turn find my ON right now on any other apple device you own before you lose that one too
file a police report. even if you don't get it back, you'll need that report for insurance claims (renter's/home insurance might cover it) or to dispute any charges if someone uses it
also call your carrier and suspend the line so nobody can use your sim
OP: suspending now. thanks
i was where you are. never got it back. BUT i did change every single password from my laptop immediately because most sms 2fa went to that phone. do that today
OP: oh god yeah i didn't even think about 2fa. doing that now
sorry this happened. it sucks. turn on find my on the replacement day 1
