I'm trying to decide if the upgrade is worth it. For those who have used both, what are the actual differences between the Free and Silver memberships in 2026?

I've got two teens who just started driving, so I'm mostly worried about the safety features and location history. Is the $5–$8/month jump actually noticeable, or is the free version "good enough"?

The biggest "quality of life" difference is the Place Alerts.

Free: You only get 2 places (like Home and School).

Silver: You get 5 places. If you want to know when they get to the gym, their part-time job, AND grandma's house, you’ll hit the limit on Free almost immediately.

Don't forget the Location History!

Free: Only gives you 2 days. If you realize on Wednesday that something weird happened Monday morning, you're out of luck.

Silver: Bumps it up to 7 days. It’s not the 30 days you get with Gold, but for $ 4.99-$7.99/mo (depending on if you pay annually), it's a decent middle ground.

If you are looking at the Silver tier mainly for the 30-day history and Unlimited Place Alerts, you might also want to consider how you are balancing "physical location" vs. "digital safety."

I actually use VigilKids alongside Life360, and here’s why:

The Content Gap: Life360 is great for knowing they arrived at school, but it won't tell you if they're being bullied on WhatsApp or accessing adult sites while they're sitting there.

Real-Time Context: VigilKids has a Live Screen View and AI detection for harmful media. If Life360 shows them at a "Place" they shouldn't be, I can use VigilKids to see what's actually happening on the device in real-time.

Monitoring vs. Location: For $7.99/mo (the price of Life360 Silver), VigilKids gives you deep insights into messaging apps and social media usage that GPS apps just can't touch.

Bottom line: Use Life360 Silver for the 30-day GPS trail, but if you're worried about what they are doing on that phone for those 30 days, VigilKids is the missing piece of the puzzle.
